Virtual Black Belt Workout!

Region 20 held an online Black Belt Workout this Saturday! Participants from around the region joined in via Zoom for an afternoon of forms practice. Everyone participated together for the first 14 forms. We took turns leading the group in doing the form first by the count then without. After that, we separated into two groups, so the Ko Dan Ja could work on their higher forms on their own.

During the Yodanja session, we discussed the history of the forms as well as application. For example, being over 900 years old, the history of the Naihanchi forms is mostly the stuff of legends, and they are attributed to a Master who was very large but moved with grace. The forms are characterized by deep Dan Jun breathing, perfect balance and hur ri twul ki.

There is a lot more information about all our forms in KJN Shin’s books. The Naihanchi forms appear in Volume IV: The Advanced Hyung. There, you will find detailed descriptions of each technique, as well as photographs. And you may see some familiar faces in those photos!

We have a lot of exciting things coming up for the Region. Despite our distance, instructors continue to hold classes in whatever way they are able, and students continue to learn. Even when we can only see each other on Zoom, we can still share the Tang Soo Do spirit.
